smoke not rain .....

I have been reading and viewing blogs from northern friends and throughly enjoying photos of snow and frost.  I realise that for you in the north, our summers over Christmas and the New Year seem odd in light of your experience.  This is our time for beach holidays.  We spent time holidaying at Noosa just before Christmas ..... mostly kayaking or boating over to the north shore to escape the summer crowds.  Bright blue days were hidden by smoke.  This has been the story of our summer thus far.  Bush fires everywhere, some in other parts of the country causing huge problems and loss of life and property.  Around us, it has just been an ongoing nuisance.  Small fires, back burning, horrid air.  We are all desperate for our summer rain.

  3. Happy New Year, Susan. I always find it interesting to see what attracts us artists out in the world when we have a camera in hand. I look at these photos, especially the "nature drawings" and I picture your etchings and beautiful books.--Julie

    1. Happy New Year to you too Julie. A am glad you can see my work in these shots. I think that is what an artist most capture's with their camera - bits and pieces to which they respond and often they echo with the marks they make. Hope that made sense!

    1. Hello Lisa - hope 2013 treats you beautifully. No rain yet - worse and worse around the country now with fires ..... horrid. We are safe here though. Thankfully.

  5. I did a large painting years ago of an enormous fire along the coast of Turkey. I was living on a mountain on an island in Greece and we saw the most exquisite colors and vibrant lines of red across the waters. So beautiful from where we were, but so destructive and deadly to the lands and people in Turkey. The news today on the fires over there is scary and devastating, I hope you are safe and well.

    1. I know what you mean about the beauty of fire. This time last year The Margaret River (a gorgeous wine growing area) in West Australia had suffered fires and we walked through a large area of one down to the coast. It was sad and yet exhilarating to see what 'paintings' the fire had made. The marks it left behind.

    1. absolutely Ersi. So often we try to emulate and fall flat on our faces! Hope to have a go with these ideas later in the year.
