what colour is green .....

It takes nature to bring this much colour into my blog ..... big gulps of fresh green after my busy couple of months leading up to the Open studio days which have been and gone.  Two happy and successful days which made the effort worthwhile and so many interested people who have no idea about the practices of printmakers and book artists who were keen to ask questions and learn.

The next day Steve and I headed off to the Bunya Mountains with friends for a few days of walking and resting.  Bliss.  We had perfect weather as you can see from the photographs though part of me was slightly disappointed as I imagine walking through these tangled forests in mist and damp would be incredibly beautiful - or should I say beautiful in a different way.  The sunshine was welcome and though I missed the mystery of the mists, the contrast of light and shade in the forests was sublime.

I am off to New Zealand in the morning with Fiona where she will be speaking at a Book Conference in Auckland about our collaboration and I will be riding on her shirt tails!  How lucky am I to have in her someone who is so competent at both writing articles and speaking in public.  My days for that are thankfully over and yet I will receive kudos from her talents by mere association.

    1. Many thanks Robyn. Hope you are feeling better now. Can suggest time off in a thoroughly green and sunny nurturing environment! Just back now from NZ and will be writing about that soon.

  3. Thank you for sharing the photos your trip to the Bunya Mountains. The greens of spring are a welcome sight as here the leaves (that have yet to fall or be blown out their trees by the wind) are gold, red, maroon or brown.

By the way, your last words brought a chuckle...mere association. Do you need reminding that Fiona is speaking about your collaboration, my dear? Mere association my as&. Ooops! Enjoy!

    1. You do make me laugh Jennifer. I don't doubt my strength creatively at all but when it comes to publications and presenting at Conferences, I am very happy to ride along on Fiona's coat tails while I can. Time will come soon I will have to self promote - ugh!!!

  5. What a landscape of dramatic delights you all inhabit in Australia! What a range of greens indeed. I have never visited your continent, but once upon a time used to work in Indonesia - there I had the opportunity to walk through green - the humid air as well as the greens of the forest. I will never forget it.
I hope that you enjoy your coat-tail ride to NZ.

    1. Back from NZ now Rosie and the coat tail trip was grand - good to have one's name out there a little more. Came back after soaking up so much other inspiration too - mostly in traditional bookbinding which is an area I do not tread, but I came away with HUGE appreciation of the book binder and conservators skills. And there will always be those that then stand out from a talented crowd and soar ... there were a couple of those speaking at the conference too and we were in awe.

    1. ooohhh - I always love it when one of my fellow tribe or bloggers posts on something which is playing around in my mind just at that moment. Will be interested to see what you are going to do with trees ..... and now that I have more spare time, will wander around said blogs, and have a peek.

  8. Thank you for sharing some of the beauty that filled the days of your retreat, Susan. Your photos are just stunning, and your description of "big gulps of fresh green" so fitting when kept in mind as you scroll through them. I think the element that most caught my attention was the geometry of the trunks/branches - especially the branches seen from below - as well as the patterns inherent in your subjects, which are further accented by the light/shadow.
PS I hope you are able to return for the mist one day!

  9. Thanks Lisa - very likely that there will be mist on my next trip to the Bunyas - and here in Montville we are often covered with mists too. Dreamy and secretive, feeling cloaked away like that.
