hope is a thing with feathers

I am making these small books, and others, for my Open Studio days.  This one however, is heading off to a very special friend of mine who has just come out of hospital.  I do love this poem by Emily Dickinson.....

'Hope' is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.

    1. Thanks Louise. There is something intrinsically beautiful about feathers I think.

  2. These are quite beautiful and evocative, not to say uplifting :^). Excuse my ignorance, but how have you made the feather images? Are they photographic? Or if printed, are they really etchings? And how do you get so many beautiful and subtle colors?

    1. Hello Atelier. thanks for visiting my blog - yes these are etchings not photographs and the inks are all applied by hand with careful rubbing and blending - a process called la poupee. I was a painter long before I was a printmaker and as such often use my printing inks in a very painterly manner. It just takes practice!
