I have just caught up my letters for A Letter a Week - IJKLMNOP - March and Aprils' letters. It always feels good to finish off some of those little things that tick along in the studio.
Tis a gorgeous, nurturing day here - shrouded in mist, gentle rain and a less than gentle blow. We are experiencing the tail end of the cyclone that hit land in the north of Queensland and having had such a dry summer, the rain is more than welcome. I love the mists that roll up here into the hills, wrapping us round and secreting us away from all else.
I love b/w art!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue - me too. Always feel more in my comfort zone and yet this year I do want to do some much softer work as well ..... soft greys perhaps!
DeleteSB - subtle and great texture and marks. B
ReplyDeletethanks Barry. These engraving plates have proved to be very versatile. Will need to make some extra large ones ...
DeleteSusan, your black and white work makes my heart sing. And these pieces...these maps of the alphabet make me yearn to follow their trails to see where they lead. What a delightful trek!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer. This was going to be my free choice alphabet but I think it really resonates more with the prescribed 'place' alphabet. I think it was Lisa McGarry who suggested this some time ago and it seems like a good idea to me!
DeleteI love the complex business of the line in these - definitely a different take on the alphabet!
ReplyDeleteThe things we non calligraphers do with an alphabet! this one has been fun for sure and I love the fact that I am using my fathers' old lettraset. It adds more meaning though on a very personal level.
Deletecartography at its best!
ReplyDeleteYou are a champ Fiona, thanks - I know how we both love charting, trails, maps .... cartography. The backgrounds rather than the letters are taking on their own sense of 'place' I think. Now I will need to come up with a freeform idea for my other alphabet.
ReplyDeleteFascinating mark making.
ReplyDeletethanks Jackie ... think that mark making is my comfort zone .... am always much happier when I am not doing anything too realistic.
